The Wrap: Quillan Salkilld taps Dom Mar Fan to defend title at Eternal 82
MMA ANZ brings you all the results from Eternal 82
Eternal champion Quillan Salkilld staked his claim to a UFC contract with a stunning win over Dom Mar Fan to defend the lightweight title.
Broome native Salkilld successfully defended his 155lb crown in the main event of Eternal 82, where he locked horns with “Street Buddha”.
The reigning lightweight champion went into the rematch as the favourite, which was largely due to the fact he had already defeated his opponent via rear-naked choke in the third round two years ago.
But the 24-year-old went one better by forcing Mar Fan to tap in the second round after weathering an early storm in the first.
Salkilld’s sixth professional mixed martial arts victory saw him extend his winning streak to the same number, an impressive run which stretches back to his debut in 2021.
As many had anticipated, neither man was willing to give an inch, with both fighters taking the centre of the cage and looking to put the other on the back foot.
Having survived the initial attack, Salkilld landed a takedown late in the first before making multiple submission attempts, which appeared to sap Mar Fan’s energy.
Salkilld seized the opportunity in the second as he took the back of a faded Mar Fan before locking in the choke.
With that, a call from the UFC is surely a matter of when, not if, after such a strong showing.
Elsewhere, Rod Costa submitted Alan Philpott with a head and arm choke and Wes Capper saw off Hong Seung Chan after a competitive three rounds at the HBF Stadium in Perth.
There were also wins for Amenda Hadaya, Toby Meech and Marwan Rahiki on a big night for Australian MMA.
Before that Khan Deatta got things started with a sensational elbow to kick off the main card.
There were seven finishes all told, including three submissions.
